Fraiman's current works show everyday „normal“ scenes in combination with fictional characters and settings, influencing the viewers moods and emotional states. She creates contrasts and contradictions by borrowing figures from old master paintings, embedding Disney cartoons, and inserting iconic pop culture images. Her complex emotional worlds are multi-layered. It is never certain whether we are seeing an illusion or reality. The images allude to the ideals and expectations that society places on female identity and the contradictions associated with fulfilling those roles. As is often the case in fantasies and fairy tales, what is most important is not the impossible events shown on the surface, but the truth that goes unsaid. Experiencing her works means entering strange, curious worlds interspersed with fact, fiction, mythology, and humor. Fraiman forces us to grapple with multilayered statements about the relationships between sexuality, rites, and consciousness.
