Astrid Klein studierte an der Fachhochschule für Kunst und Design in Köln. 1986 nahm sie an der Biennale in Venedig teil und war Professorin an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig. Sie erhielt zahlreiche Preise, darunter der Käthe-Kollwitz-Preis der Akademie der Künste und der KUNSTKÖLN-Preis (heute Cologne-Fine-Art-Preis).
ASTRID KLEIN arbeitet in unterschiedlichen Medien und Techniken (Fotografie, Neon, Installation, Skulptur). Bekannt ist sie vor allem für ihre großformatigen Fotocollagen, in denen sie sich mit Bildklischees und Wahrnehmungsprägungen befasst. Eine wichtige Konstante in ihrem Werk ist die Schrift.
RUDOLF BONVIE

Rudolf Bonvie studierte an den Kölner Werkschulen und an der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Köln. Sein fotografisches Werk wurde mit zahlreichen Preisen ausgezeichnet und international ausgestellt.
RUDOLF BONVIE gilt als einer der ersten Medienkünstler Deutschlands, der in vielen seiner Werke die Funktion und Wirkung von Kommunikation durch Bilder thematisiert. In seinem vielgestaltigen Œuvre verbindet er gesellschaftliche und fototheoretische Fragestellungen.
In der 1994 entstandenen Gemeinschaftsarbeit „fremd“ untersuchen ASTRID KLEIN und RUDOLF BONVIE das Thema des Fremden in seiner umfassenden, existenziellen Bedeutung. Es geht darin nicht nur um den „Anderen“, sondern ebenso um Selbsterkenntnis und Identifikation.

ASTRID KLEIN works with a variety of media and techniques (photography, neon, installation, sculpture). Above all, she is known for her large-scale photo collages in which she tackles visual clichés and elements influencing perception. One important constant in her work is the written word.
RUDOLF BONVIE
Rudolf Bonvie, born in Hoffnungsthal in 1947, lives and works in Cologne and France
Rudolf Bonvie studied at the Kölner Werkschulen art academies and at the Philosophy Faculty of Cologne University. His photographic works have been singled out for many awards and have been exhibited all over the world.
RUDOLF BONVIE is regarded as one of Germany’s first media artists, one whose work explores the function and impact of communication with images. In his multifarious body of work, he combines social questions with aspects of photographic theory.
In their joint work, “fremd” (foreign) from 1994, ASTRID KLEIN and RUDOLF BONVIE examine the notion of foreignness and its extensive, existential meaning. It does not just focus on “others” but also on self-awareness and identification.
