CHARLIE STEIN
Charlie Stein beschäftigt sich in ihrer Arbeit mit den unterschiedlichen Wahrnehmungen kultureller Identität im Kontext einer hoch digitalisierten, visuell übersättigten Welt. Ihr Material gewinnt sie aus der Recherche, das sie in Zeichnungen, Installationen, Objekte, Malerei und Text überträgt. Digitale Medien, Soziale Netzwerke und moderne Formen der Kommunikation sind zentrale Aspekte ihrer Arbeit, die sie immer wieder neu verhandelt. Ihre Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit zeitgenössischen kulturell-informierten Ästhetiken und hinterfragt bestehende Wahrnehmungsmodi. Nach dem Studium der freien Malerei und Grafik bei Gerhard Merz hat Stein bei Christian Jankowski Bildhauerei studiert und 2017 als Meisterschülerin abgeschlossen. 2015 war sie für das Schmidt-Rottluff Stipendium nominiert, ist ehemalige Stipendiatin des DAAD und der BW-Stiftung. 2019 erhielt Stein den Kunstpreis der Stadt Limburg. Sie war mit ihrer Arbeit bei der Manifesta11 in Zürich, Blackball Projects in New York, im Songjiang Art Museum in Shanghai und während der Istanbul Bienniale 2017 verteten. Charlie Stein lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.

CHARLIE STEIN
In her work Charlie Stein deals with dominant cultural aesthetics questioning existing modes of perception within the context of a highly digitized, visually overstimulated world. Her material is gathered through extensive research and translated into drawings, installations, sculptures, paintings and text. Her focus lies on social structures, digital media and contemporary forms of communication. She holds a postgraduate degree in fine art from the State Academy of Fine Art where she studied at the classes of Christian Jankowski and Rainer Ganahl in Stuttgart, as well as the class of Gerhard Merz in Munich. She was a recipient of a DAAD scholarship in 2010 to reside in Beijing, China. Recent exhibitions include Manifesta11, Villa Merkel, the Songjiang Art Museum in Shanghai, Museum Villa Rot and the 2017 edition of the Istanbul Biennial.
