In line with Warren Neidich’s theoretical ideas, the sound installation The infinite Replay of One’s own Selfdestruction # 1 suggests alternative solutions to the Internet’s mechanisms of control and manipulation of digital information flows. By subverting common modes of listening, experimental music and sound art provide entirely novel sensory experiences. Once the first impulse of irritation is overcome, a changed and expanded understanding and receptiveness towards acoustic experiences can be reached, which, in time, may even become habitualized. What is at stake here is nothing less than a questioning of habitualized modes of experience, an unfettered exploration of acoustic possibilities, and ultimately – by way of these shifts in perception – social change.
